“The world is not a problem to be solved; it is a living being to which we belong (..) Until we go to the root of our image of separateness, there can be no healing.” Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee

  • ● Do you feel the urgency to wake up from ‘business as usual’?
    ●  Do you find yourself overwhelmed by climate change and the state of the world?
    ●  Are you looking for like-minded people who want to support each other in reclaiming courage and guardianship of the Earth?

The irreversible change with unforeseeable consequences of the new world we have moved into has the potential to quicken our collective awakening for a profound transformation of our world. This transformation begins within. It requires to know ourselves, not only as individuals, but as co-creators within a deeply ensouled web of life.

The goal of the training is
●  to explore our inner responses to the condition of the world
●  to prepare to take part in its healing (and recognising ways you already do that)

Resources
The training is based on the Spiral of the ‘Work that Reconnects’ by Joanna Macy and our background in the Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development, Authentic Leadership, Theory of Living Human Systems, Evolutionary Psychology and Buddhism.

Method
The training will be based on a mix of theory, systemic group work, guided meditations, mindful dialogue and inquiry, movement and body-based practices.

With the training you learn
●  how to strengthen your inner resources of intuitive wisdom, courage, radical presence and compassionate action
●  how to listen deeply to one’s own heart, to each other and how the Earth is calling to us
●  to build together a supportive and inclusive community (system) by exploring and integrating both similarities and differences
●  to shift in perspective (from ego to eco) and to engage from a connected self that allows for a natural carefree caring for all life
●  to grow your impact in contributing to the healing of the world

Practical information
The training consists of 6 training days (3 x two-days) and 2 integration days with a smaller group. Goal of the integration days is to explore how you can integrate the knowledge, inspiration and practices of the training in your daily life and work more effectively.

Practicing is to live your daily life according to the perennial principles of harmony, humility and love.” – Satish Kumar, Earth Pilgrim

The deeper I’m diving into this question of how to live a life well lived and contribute to a positive change in society, the more I realise that there is so much within this thing called ‘everyday life’. I cannot separate the work I’m doing ‘out there in the world’ with what is inside my fridge, the clutter (or none) on my desk or how fit and rested my body feels. It is all connected. And if I want to show up as courageously as I can and make the biggest possible impact, personal practices are essential.

In this 5th Spiritual Ecology Community of Practice we’ll dive into this topic of Personal Practices. I will share a bit about my story with personal practices. We will practice a few – meditation, writing, walking as a way of reconnecting with nature – and will look at what potentially blocks you from picking up a practice.

What do you practice on a daily basis and how do these rituals or personal practices support you in your work in the world? How do they (re)connect you to the sacred?

Slow down and enjoy life. It’s not only the scenery you miss by going too fast – you also miss the sense of where you are going and why.” Eddie Cantor

On 18, 19 and 20th October 2019 we organize the first NVR Young Feminist Weekend in The Hague. We bring 30 young feminists together in the Netherlands to explore how we can create positive change as an intersectional feminist movement. We invite applications from young self-identified women aged between 18 and 31 who strongly believe in coming together and building connections with other young feminists, in order to create change together.

NVR Young Feminist Weekend is inspired by the successful summer camp for young feminists from Europe – over the past four years: AGORA.

Honestly life changing. I came back not only inspired, but with a new found sense of personal confidence, conviction in my feminist beliefs and self-belief itself in what I had to say and what I had to bring the world. I felt an enormous sense of solidarity too from the friends I made.” (AGORA 2017 alumna)

What role can art and activism play in supporting a radical shift in our society?

Change happens in many ways and can take many forms: legal measures, education and empowerment, building alternative systems, innovation in business. I think both art and activism are important forces and they can be even more powerful when brought together. They invite us to imagine a different reality, to engage in a new conversation.

“We are talking only to ourselves. We are not talking to the rivers, we are not listening to the wind and stars. We have broken the great conversation. By breaking that conversation we have shattered the universe. All the disasters that are happening now are a consequence of that spiritual “autism”.” – Thomas Berry, The Dream of the Earth

In this fourth edition of the Spiritual Ecology Community of Practice evening we’ll listen to stories of a few people in the field – names to be announced after summer.
If you are looking for ways in which you might be able to contribute to this growing global movements, feel very welcome to join. You do not need to consider yourself an artist nor an activist 🙂 – feel welcome to join this evening if this topic interests you. Who knows what insights you’ll walk away with!

September 2019

// We have developed a highly dysfunctional society that is based on continuous economic growth at the expense of the Earth and its many life forms, including human lives. This system is more oppressive for some than for others, and ultimately harms everyone. From how I (Maaike) have been introduced in this work, Spiritual Ecology brings together environmental injustice with social injustice.

// Tonight we want to explore and dive into Spiritual Ecology and Decolonisation. We will explore the question: How can we – from our various ‘places’ on the spectrum of privilege and oppression – support the decolonisation of our own lives and those around us, and be in greater service to life?

// We hosted a first session on Spiritual Ecology and Decolonisation in June. It felt like there was so much more to explore and uncover, that we decided to host another evening on these topics. You do not need to have been there in June to be able to join this session. You’re very welcome to be there! No previous experience is needed, just bring yourself and an openness to learn.

// This evening is hosted and lightly facilitated by Daryll Landbrug and Maaike Boumans. Daryll Landbrug is a human rights activist and youth worker with great experience in the field of anti-racism activism, building communities and motivating youth for positive change.

Augustus 2019

Maaike geeft op 24 augustus van 17:45 – 18:45 een lezing Failing our Future.: hoe om te gaan met het onvermijdelijk falen in duurzaamheid?

Over Icarus Festival:

#CLIMATETRIBE
On the evening of Thursday July 18, we organise Climate Tribe. A gathering in the Wicked Grounds Warehouse. An evening filled with music, inspirational talks, real food and group meditation to heal ourselves and the world. The past centuries, we have lost something. Now it is time to welcome it back in again.

#THEWORLDISCRYING
The world is crying. Humanity is crying. We have gone blind to our connection with nature, as we rush to cut down the forest, mine the mountains, destroy the habitat of indigenous tribes and wild animals. We are out of balance with the life force of the natural world. We are entering a new era. The era of community. So it is time to step up and act as a tribe. We believe the answer to today’s challenges is the collective shift to a higher consciousness. Buddhists believe it can be done by meditation, indigenous tribes by finding strength and support in a community. We will do both.
#GUARDIANSOFTHEFOREST
This event is a fundraising and donation based. Next to connecting with beautiful spirits, the goal is to raise money. All money collected will go to our brothers and sisters in the Amazon of Brasil, the indigenous tribes that are fighting to protect their lands from an outdated political and economical system. They not only protect their land. Also ours. The Amazon. The lungs of the world. The salvation of the planet is in ancestral knowledge of the world’s indigenous tribes. They are the climate solution. And it is our goal to support, empower and protect the Guardians of the Forest. Because we are all one. We are the Climate Tribe.

#IFNOTUSTHENWHO
This will be the charity. They will make sure your gift ends up where it is needed the most. If Not Us Then Who is a US registered charity, 501(c)(3) that supports a global awareness campaign highlighting the role indigenous and local peoples play in protecting our planet. They work in partnership with communities to make films, take photographs, curate content, commission local artists and host events. Their work aims to build lasting networks, target unjust policies, and advocate for greater rights for indigenous and local peoples to bring about positive social change.

“Spiritual Ecology: Deepening your purpose”
With guest trainer Maaike Boumans

When: 10:00 – 13:00
Where: Meeting point is outside at the entrance of the Clock Building, Generaal Foulkesweg 37, Wageningen.

You’re warmly invited to the workshop “Spiritual Ecology: Deepening your purpose” with Maaike Boumans as guest trainer.

This is the final of a series on Inner Sustainability – the last one before summer holidays! You might continue your studies after summer, maybe you’re heading into a new phase in your life having just finished your studies, or perhaps you’re continuing your job. Where-ever you might find yourself, you’re very welcome to join this 3-hour workshop on Spiritual Ecology.

What is Spiritual Ecology?
————————————
Spiritual Ecology recognizes that we need a spiritual response to our present ecological, social, economic and political crisis. It acknowledges that life – all life – is sacred and invites us to act in service of life. In the words of Barbara Sargent, Spiritual Ecology ‘seeks to heal unspeakable wounds and tries to rebuild the fabric of our lives together with the Earth’. As you might feel too, it is high time we do so! Put into practice, Spiritual Ecology can mean many things. For me it involves, among other things, nature-connection practices, morning walks, meditation, inquiry, meaningful conversation, brave action, critical thinking and self reflection.

What can I expect?
—————————
Since this is the end of the school year, we want to connect the practice of Spiritual Ecology to your daily life and the questions you are dealing with right now. We want to offer the opportunity to reflect on this past school year, tune in with what is yours to do now and get ready for the next part of your journey. Expect exercises that invite you to deepen your connection to yourself and the world around you, meaningful conversation with strangers and schoolmates, and a lot of fun.

// Though a great wave of ‘official’ decolonisation took place in the 50’s and 60’s, the underlying paradigm of white supremacy and its power systems is still prevalent in most parts of our world, including the Netherlands. Much is to be done in reclaiming people’s traditional culture, redefining themselves as a people and decolonising the land; and it is high time to do so.

// In this evening we want to inquire into and explore Spiritual Ecology and Decolonisation. How can we – from our various ‘places’ on the spectrum of privilege and oppression – support the decolonisation of our own lives and those around us, and be in greater service to life?

dinsdag 18 juni 20:00 – 22:00 @ De Lievelinge

Mei 2019

4th of May (10:00 – 16:30) and 3th of June (19:30 – 21:30)

Are you worried by the mess we are in as a global society and are you looking for your contribution to support the healing of our world? Have you heard of the work of Joanna Macy and always wanted to learn more about it? Do you feel a longing to (re-)connect to nature while living in a city?

This workshop was inspired by Joanna Macy’s body of works called together The Work That Reconnects. We are offering this 1 day + 1 evening program to share our inspiration and reflections on this work. We want to bring people together around the inquiry of making peace with Earth, which includes making peace with ourselves and others.

Spiritual Ecology & Sustainability workshop @ Circus Circulair – Hocus Focus week

Wees welkom!

Spiritual Ecology workshop @ Food Autonomy Festival organised by ASEED
Friday 31st of May
17:00 – 18:00

A 3day festival to present and celebrate alternatives and resistance to the state and corporate-controlled industrial food system. Come join us for a weekend of learning practical skills for growing (or finding…) your own food, to hear peoples’ experiences of gaining access to land, of building alternatives and forging resistance, to dance to thrashy folk-punk, and to share in the collective enthusiasm for an autonomous future!

I will focus specifically on the topic of intersectionality and on how to take action, two of the three themes of this festival. You’re most welcome to join.
